Discovery (part of Dimensions UK) - CPD Member Case Study

We have been asking our members from across the industries the reasons why they became a CPD provider. This CPD Member case study was provided by Discovery (part of Dimensions UK). For more information, please visit their CPD Member Directory page.

Please provide us with a brief overview of your organisation. What do you do?

Discovery is part of the Dimensions group, a provider of social care in the UK. Our vision is “Better Lives for More People.” In the South West, Discovery delivers a Supported Employment Service, helping adults with learning disabilities, autistic people, and others who identify as neurodivergent into meaningful, paid employment. We work under the evidence-based Supported Employment Model, providing tailored job matching and ongoing workplace support. An essential part of our work is engaging with employers to create inclusive workplaces through training, advice, and practical guidance. We also collaborate with training providers and community groups to raise awareness and encourage best practice across the sector.

Why did you become a CPD provider?

We are passionate about making a meaningful impact on the lives of the people we support. Part of this commitment is ensuring that our training is of high quality, accessible to diverse learning styles, and most importantly, results in learners applying their knowledge in real-world settings. We welcomed the critical evaluation of our courses as part of the CPD accreditation process. This external scrutiny holds us to a high standard and supports our continuous improvement. Becoming a CPD provider was an important step to demonstrate the value of our training to employers who want to develop inclusive workplace practices. It also provides a clear marker of credibility and quality, which helps grant-giving bodies and funders have confidence in what we provide.

How did you implement CPD accreditation in your organisation?

Our training team used the framework provided by The CPD Certification Service, alongside the feedback that we had previously gathered from our course participants to align our courses with recognised professional standards for CPD. This meant that we ensured that not only was the course content of a high standard, but that each trainer who delivers had all the information they need to be able to deliver the training in a standardised way. This approach supported us to uphold a key principle of CPD, which is that all learners receive the same high quality learning experience.

How has CPD helped your organisation achieve its learning objectives?

CPD accreditation has:

  • Increased confidence among employers, professionals, and funders in the quality of our training.
  • Supported consistency and standardisation across all sessions.
  • Enabled us to provide data and narrative outcomes through feedback and reflection activities, helping employers make informed decisions about future training needs.
  • Highlighted gaps and opportunities for further training in our sector, guiding our continuous improvement.
